HighPoint Health System Names Chief Operating Officer
Mike Herman, FACHE, Brings Years of Experience in Operations and Analysis to HighPoint

HighPoint Health System CEO Mary Jo Lewis today announced Michael S. Herman has been named the health system’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). 


Michael S. HermanHerman joins the HighPoint Health System from Trident Health System in Charleston, SC.  He spent the last three years as Vice President of Operations at the system’s 94-bed Summerville Medical Center in Summerville, and brings more than a decade of senior-level operations experience to HighPoint.  In the COO role, he will help develop and foster effective collaboration between clinical departments, divisions, medical staff leadership, and other affiliated services (inside and outside of the hospitals) to ensure an integrated approach to providing services, and fulfilling the system’s clinical and business goals and objectives. 

“We are fortunate to be adding someone with Mike’s experience to our operations team at HighPoint,” said Lewis.  “While at Summerville, Mike planned and developed numerous expansion projects and served as Co-Chair for the Performance Committee.  He was also involved in the accreditation processes for a Chest Pain Center, Primary Stroke Center and a Total Joint designation by The Joint Commission.  I am proud to have Mike on our team and look forward to seeing all we can accomplish together for our hospitals in Gallatin, Hartsville and Carthage.”

Prior to his role at Trident Health System, Herman served for three years as the Senior Operations Analyst at the 242-bed Doctors Hospital of Augusta, Ga., where his duties included core measures analysis and the analysis and improvement of physician and employee satisfaction in the hospital’s Surgical Department.  Prior to that, he spent four years at the 278-bed North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla., where he started as the Operating Department Administrative Assistant and Sterile Processing Tech, before being promoted to Operations Analyst for the hospital.

“My family and I are looking forward to moving to Tennessee and becoming active members in the Gallatin community,” said Herman.  “I’m very impressed with the area and I’m proud to be associated with HighPoint Health System. I am committed to helping grow our services to meet the needs of the patients we serve.”

Herman earned both a bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition and a master’s degree in Health Administration at the University of Florida, Gainesville.   He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a former member of the Summerville Oakbrook Rotary, where he served as secretary, and a former member of the Summerville Chamber of Commerce. Herman is also a graduate of Leadership Augusta.  He and his wife, Lisa, have two daughters and are planning a move to Gallatin.
