Sumner Regional Medical Center Offers New Joint Success Training
SRMC Begins Offering Joint Replacement Pre-Surgery Classes July 1

Sumner Regional Medical Center (SRMC) announced that the hospital will begin offering preoperative educational classes for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery on Monday, July 1.

The free classes are open to the public and are designed for anyone who is scheduled for, or is strongly considering, joint replacement surgery.

“There is a growing population in the communities we serve living with joint pain who have either already spoken to an orthopaedic surgeon about replacement surgery or are considering it.  Whatever the case, these classes will be extremely helpful in preparing a potential patient to make the decision to proceed and will help those planning on surgery to prepare,” said Susan Peach, RN, MBA, Chief Executive Officer of Sumner Regional Medical Center and HighPoint Health System.  “We have one of the highest quality orthopaedic surgery programs in the state, with highly trained orthopaedic surgeons delivering excellent outcomes for patients in and surrounding Sumner County, and I’m pleased we’re able to expand the care we provide with these free classes.”

The classes, taught by Sumner Regional’s orthopaedic post-operative nurses and physical therapists, cover very important information that is helpful to the patient and his or her family members or caregivers.

“In the classes, we will review what to expect before and after surgery, answer questions, and provide guidance for every step from admission through discharge and beyond,” said Angela Beardslee, RN, nursing director of SRMS’s orthopaedic care unit.  “Some of the topics discussed are preparing yourself and your home for surgery, what to bring to the hospital, pain management, post-op goals, physical therapy, nutrition, and more.”

Joint success training classes are held the first and third Monday of every month from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at SRMC.  For more information, or to register for a class, please contact Angela Beardslee, at (615) 328-4609 or by email at angela.beardslee@lpnt.net.
