Wilkerson was nominated for the Nurse of the Year Award by his colleague, Cindy Bell.  Bell, a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse, nominated Wilkerson for his giving demeanor and fun, lively spirit.

“David is a lot of fun and he is one of the most caring people around,” said Bell.  She talked about the many mission trips Wilkerson has been on and said, “No one can match his generosity.  He is unusual in the world, not just in surgery. I have had many bosses throughout my career, but David is by far the best.”

Wilkerson, a long-time resident of Sumner County, earned his nursing degree at Cumberland University.  He joined Sumner Regional Medical Center in 2005 and is the nursing director of the Surgical Services unit.  Wilkerson and his wife, Shelia, live in Westmoreland.
