Surgical Offerings
We understand that losing weight and keeping it off is difficult. It not only impacts your health but your quality of life and the way you feel about yourself. Our clinic is on the forefront of providing metabolic surgery for fighting the disease of obesity.
Laparoscopic/Robotic Sleeve Gastrectomy
Gastric sleeve surgery is a restrictive type of procedure that permanently reduces the size of the stomach, thereby limiting food intake as well as the sensation of hunger. The smaller stomach size restricts the amount of food that can be eaten, so patients lose weight by eating fewer calories. This procedure also impacts the production of ghrelin, the "hunger hormone."
More surgical offerings are being added as the program grows. If you don't see the procedure you are interested in here, please reach out to us for more information.
How to Get Started
The process leading up to bariatric surgery varies depending on each person’s medical history and insurance requirements.
Appointment Scheduling
The first step is calling our office. Before you come in for a scheduled intake evaluation, a member of our staff will gather your insurance information so that when you arrive, you will be able to review your coverage.
You will also be asked to attend a seminar (we currently offer in-person seminars but online seminars are coming soon). Attending a seminar is required before the intake process begins. Here, you will have the opportunity to speak with any number of our Bariatric Staff, including the surgeon, dietitian, nurses, and insurance coordinator(s).
Other appointments you may need to attend before your bariatric surgery include visits to specialists to get the proper clearances or seeing your primary care provider to document a supervised diet. These steps, if required by your specific insurance plan, will be discussed in detail with you.
Evaluation - "Intake Day"
The intake evaluation appointment is a group meeting with a nurse, dietitian, surgeon, and insurance specialist. You’ll also meet with staff for an initial history and physical. You will learn about what your insurance plan requires. Patients may need to schedule several appointments including:
-
-
- A nutrition assessment.
- A psychological evaluation.
- A weight management program (if your health insurance requires this).
- Additional medical tests, as determined by the surgeon.
-
After completing your individual requirements, your medical record will be reviewed by our staff. You will learn whether the clinic’s surgeon/physician assistant has cleared you for surgery. Finally, your case is sent to your insurance carrier for approval. After the insurance company approves the surgery, your pre-operative appointments and surgery will be scheduled.
We realize this may seem overwhelming at first, but our staff is here to guide the way. We want you to be successful in achieving your goals.
Insurance & Financing
We will screen your health history to make sure you are an appropriate candidate and our Insurance Team will make sure you meet the criteria set forth by your insurance policy. At your intake appointment, you will receive a personalized benefits form that will estimate, to the best of our abilities, your total out-of-pocket expenses. Read more about insurance and financing.
