Jonathon Srour, DPM, AACFAS, Co-Authors Chapters on Cutting Edge Arthroscopy Ankle Joint Techniques

Riverview Regional Medical Center (RRMC) is proud to announce that Dr. Jonathon Srour, Podiatric Foot and Ankle Surgeon who sees patients at the RRMC Specialty Clinic, recently co-authored two chapters in the latest edition of Clinics in Podiatric Medicine. Each issue of this journal focuses on one new topic in podiatry, and it is praised for highlighting the newest trends and advancements.
The latest July issue focuses on Arthroscopy, a type of minimally invasive surgery on joints. The first chapter, “Subtalar Joint Arthroscopy”, provides the latest indications, uses, and techniques of arthroscopy of the subtalar joint located by the heel, directly underneath the ankle joint.
The second chapter, “Arthroscopic Lateral Stabilization” is the first ever published technique of its kind. The unique arthroscopic approach is to stabilize both the ankle and the subtalar joint simultaneously. The surgery technique is minimally invasive with only poke-hole incisions and performed with a 4mm camera. The surgery helps to combat chronic ankle instability.
These concepts have huge benefits for the patient. Stabilizing the ankle and the subtalar joint arthroscopically follows the trend of arthroscopic repair of the knee and shoulder. There was a time when a meniscal repair of the knee or rotator cuff repair of the shoulder was performed completely open with a large incision which resulted in significant scar tissue and a longer recovery. The same applies to repairs of the ankle.
“By performing these procedures arthroscopically, I can minimize that scar tissue, decrease the recovery time, and hopefully minimize the amount of narcotic pain medications (if any) that are required after surgery,” said Dr. Srour.
Dr. Srour is excited to bring these cutting-edge techniques to his practices in Carthage, Cookeville, and Smithville. To learn more and make an appointment, visit our Specialty Clinic.
