Joint Commission National Quality Gold Seal of Approval
Our facility voluntarily goes through evaluation by The Joint Commission. The goal of the evaluation? To see if our facility meets The Joint Commission’s rigorous performance standards in delivering quality, safe care. By meeting these standards, Highpoint Health – Sumner with Ascension Saint Thomas received The Gold Seal of Approval® – an internationally recognized symbol of quality.
Accreditation and certification by The Joint Commission are considered the gold standard in health care. Specially trained healthcare professionals who are experts in their fields visited this facility to conduct a review that monitors how well our staff:

Stroke Care
American Heart Association and American Stroke Association Primary Stroke Center
Highpoint Health – Sumner has been named a Primary Stroke Center. Offered in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association achieving Primary Stroke Center (PSC) Certification means you’re making exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes.
It's a signal to your community that the quality of care you provide meets the unique and specialized needs of stroke patients.
American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award
The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence. Highpoint Health – Sumner earned the award by meeting specific quality achievement measures for the diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients at a set level for a designated period. These measures include evaluation of the proper use of medications and other stroke treatments aligned with the most up-to-date, evidence-based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients.
American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Honor Roll award
To qualify for this recognition, hospitals must meet quality measures developed with more than 90 % of compliance for 12 consecutive months for the “Overall Diabetes Cardiovascular Initiative Composite Score.”

Chest Pain
Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI
Highpoint Health – Sumner achieved Chest Pain Center with Primary PCI Accreditation from ACC Accreditation Services, the accrediting arm of the American College of Cardiology again in 2021. The PCI designation means that we use a specialized treatment called percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) as the primary treatment for acute heart attacks. This ensures that patients experiencing an acute heart attack receive rapid treatment in the cardiac cath lab to minimize damage to the heart muscle. Highpoint Health – Riverview and Highpoint Health – Trousdale have both received Chest Pain Accreditation from the ACC as well.

Cardiac Rehab
AACVPR Certified Program (American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation)
AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-reviewed accreditation process designed to review individual facilities for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by the AACVPR and other professional societies. Highpoint Health – Sumner's Cardiac Rehabilitation program is AACVPR certified.

Imaging
American College of Radiology- Mammography Accredited Facility
The Mammography Accreditation Program provides facilities with peer review and constructive feedback on staff qualifications, equipment, quality control, quality assurance, image quality and radiation dose. The 1992 Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requires that all mammography facilities in the United States be accredited – Mammography Accreditation Program. Sumner Station and Highpoint Health – Riverview have received this accreditation.
American College of Radiology- Ultrasound Accredited Facility
The American College of Radiology assesses image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
American College of Radiology- Nuclear Medicine Accredited Facility
The Nuclear Medicine Accreditation Program involves the acquisition of clinical and phantom images and corresponding data for each unit.

Cancer
Commission on Cancer Accredited Program - A Quality program of the American College of Surgeons
The Carpenter Cancer Center at Highpoint Health – Sumner has received accreditation by the Commission on Cancer. Achieving accreditation by the CoC ensures patients receive:
- Patient-centered care through a multidisciplinary team-approach
- Access to information on clinical and new treatment options
- Ongoing monitoring of care and lifelong patient follow-up
- Psycho-social support and survivorship care

- Outlier Rate: Less than or equal to 16%
- Median Days to Heal: Less than or equal to 28

Women's Services
Highpoint Health - Sumner Women’s Services earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care (ACPC) by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care, in this case for mothers, babies, and families. Highpoint Health - Sumner is the first hospital in the state to achieve this certification, a huge feat in a state populated by larger healthcare corporations.

A Commitment to Quality Care
Highpoint Health – Trousdale is proud to be a Lifepoint Health National Quality Leader. This special designation recognizes hospitals that have enrolled in the Lifepoint National Quality Program and succeeded in transforming their culture of safety and achieving high standards of quality care, performance improvement and patient engagement.
To achieve this designation, our team went through a rigorous process working with experts to evaluate how we provide care and to adopt and implement best practices. As a result of this work, we have a unique cultural and operational focus on quality in which everyone – employees, physicians, patients and family members – has a voice and plays a vital role.
We consider quality more than just a set of clinical criteria. It is a way of life for us, encompassing everything we do. It incorporates how we care for patients, how we ensure the health and safety of each of our employees and how we contribute to the health of our community.
Chartis Performance Leadership Award
Highpoint Health – Trousdale and Highpoint Health – Riverview were recognized with a 2023 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Quality and additionally Patient Perspective at Highpoint Health – Trousdale. The hospitals were presented with this award as part of National Rural Health Day on November 16, 2023. Compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes and/or Patient Perspective.
