The Carpenter Cancer Center's specialists and staff are committed to treating your patient with compassion and their cancer with the most advanced diagnostics, techniques and cancer treatment available. Our exceptional team of compassionate and highly-skilled cancer treatment professionals include a board certified radiation oncologist, board certified medical oncologists/hematologists, surgeons, physicians, board certified medical physicist, board certified medical dosimetrist, board certified radiation therapist, nurses and support staff. Cardiac Care
SRMC is an Accredited Chest Pain Center and Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Center. We are proud to offer a high level of heart care with new technology, new procedures, and services to keep your patients’ hearts healthy right here in Sumner County. We have full-time cardiologists on staff, two-state of the art cardiac catheterization labs, cardiographics services, and a cardiac rehabilitation program. Cardiac Scoring
Cardiac Rehabilitation is an accredited specialized program designed for those with cardiovascular disease. Registered Nurses and Respiratory Therapists help cardiac patients through education and exercise therapy by providing:

• Three-month supervised exercise program
• EKG tracings
• Progress notes to patients PCP

Critical Care Unit
The goal of SRMC’s Critical Care Unit (CCU) is to provide the highest quality healthcare to all our patients in the most professional and compassionate manner possible. Our 18 bed unit is staffed with Intensivists, nurses and other licensed personnel who specialize in the treatment of critically ill patients. Diabetes and Nutrition Education
The Sumner Diabetes Program is taught by a registered nurse and registered dietitian. Topics discussed include healthy eating for diabetes, reducing complications, taking medication, monitoring blood sugar, reading labels and more. A physician order is required for diabetes and nutrition education. For more information about the program, please call 615-328-6190.

Dialysis
Acute hemodialysis is provided on site for those patients in need of this service due to renal failure. Our nephrologists on staff order and schedule routine dialysis treatments based on the individual patient's needs. A fully trained and credentialed registered nurse is also on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the event a patient develops an emergent need for dialysis. Contact us at 615-451-5530.
Emergency Services
The Emergency Rooms now located at Sumner Regional Medical Center and Sumner Station (SS) are an Accredited Chest Pain Center, a Certified Primary Stroke Center and Trauma Level III designation. We have built a team of the most skilled ER nurses and physicians in the region, and we've redesigned our processes to exceed your expectations. The goal of the Emergency Room staff at both SRMC and SS is to offer the highest quality health care to all our patients, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We strive to deliver these services in a professional and compassionate manner with physicians that are board certified and trained in Emergency Medicine and nurses who specialize in emergency care and specialists in many fields who are available for consultation.
Patients with life-threatening illnesses or who need emergency treatment will be taken immediately to the treatment room. Our goal is for each patient to be examined by a physician within 15 minutes of arrival.

Endoscopy/Gastroenterology
At SRMC, we offer open access colonoscopies through the board certified gastroenterologists (listed in this directory with complete information) who provide high quality, comprehensive care for patients with a wide variety of gastrointestinal ailments. Patients do not need referrals for screening colonoscopies and the majority of the patients do not need to be seen before their procedure. We offer colonoscopies and clinic appointments Monday through Friday to accommodate the patient’s schedule.

Home Health
HighPoint Home Health is convenient, cost-effective and reliable care for patients who have healthcare needs at home, often after they are discharged from the hospital. Our trusted care and constant attention to the needs of our patients not only benefits them, but provides much needed peace of mind for their caregivers.
We offer a wide variety of quality services, ensuring that patient care needs are met in the privacy of their own homes. Additionally, HighPoint Homecare provides professional health care in many area long-term care facilities.
HighPoint Homecare has offices in Gallatin and Carthage. Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except during company holidays. Services are provided in Sumner, Davidson, Robertson, Wilson, Trousdale, Macon, Smith, DeKalb, Putnam and Jackson counties.
To qualify for home health services:
• Patient must be homebound
• Patient must be under the care of a physician
• The care must be provided in the patient’s place of residence (home, assisted living facility, group home or family care home)
• The services must be skilled and needed on an intermittent basis

Hospice
HighPoint Hospice walks by the patient’s side to help them find strength and courage to enjoy the many special moments they have left with their loved ones. The experienced and compassionate staff is waiting to answer patients’ questions and hold their hand through this important time of life.
HighPoint Hospice has offices in Gallatin. Our office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, except during company holidays. We have a nurse on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure patients receive necessary home care services. Services are provided in Sumner, Davidson, Robertson, Wilson, Trousdale, Macon, and Smith counties. In-house hospice is also available at Sumner Regional Medical Center.
Hospice Admission Criteria:
• Made upon recommendation of physician, based on patient’s needs
• Life expectancy of 6 months or less if the illness runs its normal course
• Patient does not wish to receive, or is not a candidate for curative treatment options
• Patient has a primary care person

Hospice services can be provided in the home, in an acute care setting, or in a long-term care setting based on patient and family wishes and clinical condition. We also have inhouse hospice available at Sumner Regional Medical Center. All services are provided under the direction of a physician and/or the Hospice Medical Director. Arrangements will be made for hospice approved medications, medical supplies and equipment.
Most referrals are made by a physician or a hospital discharge planner. Family members or patient can also make referrals. Referrals can be made by contacting us at 615-328-6690.

SRMC’s laboratory has sophisticated equipment that processes both inpatient and testing for personal physician offices with a full-service laboratory. It is accredited by the Joint Commission. Our professional staff of board-certified pathologists, technologists and support personnel are highly trained and dedicated to putting the patient first and meeting your needs. We strive to keep the newest technology to ensure accurate and efficient results in order to provide better service to you and our patients.

Neurosurgical ICU
The Neurosurgical ICU at Sumner Regional Medical Center is committed to providing quality care to the neurosurgical population. We work with a team of expert neurosurgeons, critical care trained intensivist, physician assistants and advance practice nurses. Pharmacy
The Department of Pharmacy provides medication therapy care services for patients of all age groups and levels of acuity within SRMC. All services are provided in accordance with accepted ethical and professional standards of practice and meet all legal requirements. As part of daily activities, pharmacists routinely assess pertinent patient information such as demographic data, vital signs, laboratory values, medication regimens, and medication compliance. Pharmacists collaborate with all members of the healthcare team, patients, and their caregivers to provide value-based, patient-centered care. Our Pharmacists are doctorate level graduates, and many are Board Certified, and Residency trained. Pharmacy Residents, Certified Technicians, Pharmacy Interns, and Pharmacy students assist in the delivery of pharmaceutical care under the direct supervision of our staff pharmacist.
Established policies, procedures, protocols, therapeutic guidelines, and standards of pharmacy practice are followed as part of the pharmaceutical care service process. Our Clinical Pharmacy team provide collaborative and interdisciplinary care in an evidence-based and cost-effective manner to improve patient outcomes. Standards of practice established by the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists, The Joint Commission, the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy, and the Food and Drug Administration serve as a guide for establishing pharmacy services.

Rehabilitation Services
SRMC provides a variety of rehabilitation services both on the main campus and at Sumner Station. Listed below are both the inpatient and outpatient services.
In-patient Rehab (located at SRMC)
The Inpatient Rehab Unit has many special features, including state-of-the-art equipment, 17 private, spacious and comfortable rooms, an exceptionally experienced team of therapists and nurses, and family support and education. We offer physical, occupational, and speech therapies, RN case manager and 24-hour rehabilitation nursing care under the direction of full-time medical directors.
Our team of rehabilitation professionals serves patients who:
• Are limited in self-care
• Have impaired mobility, balance and coordination
• Are limited in strength and range of motion
• Have cognitive and perceptual deficits
• Experience speech and communication problems
• Have swallowing disorders

Patients must be referred by primary care physicians, insurance representatives, case managers, social services professionals, family members and other health professionals. Patient’s stay may be covered partially or completely by Medicare or private insurance. Standard federal rules will apply in relation to the patient’s individual available hospital days. Outpatient Rehab (located at Sumner Station)
Highpoint Therapy Services at Sumner Station offers comprehensive outpatient therapy. With an experienced staff including Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists, we are ready to get patients back to their active lives. Our highly skilled and knowledgeable therapy practitioners specialize in improving the abilities and lives of those affected by injuries, disease, illness, and pain. We pride ourselves on providing one on one care for each patient by licensed therapists only. We strive to create personalized treatment programs to regain skills and achieve the best possible outcome for a good quality of life. We provide individualized care in our state of the art facility. SRMC provides both inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehabilitation programs. Our rehab at SRMC is one of the only accredited rehab facilities in the area. We offer exercise counseling and strength training, education for heart healthy living and lifestyle recommendations. Cardiac Rehabilitation is a medically supervised program designed to improve cardiovascular health. Therapy is initiated by our staff after a cardiac event.

Respiratory Services
Sumner Regional Medical Center provides around-the-clock respiratory therapy for patients who have breathing difficulties.

Stroke Care
Primary Stroke Center certification is reserved for hospitals that meet standards set by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association and The Joint Commission for being a leader in the identification, intervention and treatment of stroke care for patients. Certified primary stroke centers consistently set a higher standard care for stroke patients. SRMC is very proud of this designation. Robotic Surgery
Robotic Surgery allows the surgeon to perform complex procedures through just a few tiny openings. As a result, patients may be able to get back to life faster without the usually recovery following major surgery.

Same Day Surgery
We provide a variety of services with new procedures being offered every year. The
surgeon will determine whether surgery can be done on an outpatient basis and will
schedule the procedure.
Advantages of same day surgery include:
• Convenience – patients spend less time away from home and less time off work
• Patients recover from surgery more quickly
• Patients feel more relaxed and confident about surgery
• Outpatient procedures usually cost as much as 25 percent less than inpatient surgery
• Outpatient surgery delivers the same high quality care as that given to inpatients

Neurological Surgery
This program is made possible by a joint effort with the providers of Nashville Neurosurgery Associates and Vanderbilt Neurology Associates . Women’s Health
SRMC’s Women’s Services, voted best place to have a baby in Sumner County by Sumner Parent Magazine for 8 years in a row, and is located on the 2nd floor of the hospital. The unit features all private, labor, delivery and recovery (LDR) rooms that offer patients an atmosphere more like home than a hospital and the latest in state-of-the-art equipment. We offer a full service nursey for your newborn with Vanderbilt Neonatal services on staff to assist with the smallest of patients. We have an excellent medical staff of obstetricians and pediatricians, as well as experienced and well-trained nurses who welcome more than 700 babies into the world each year and a full-time lactation consultant on staff.
