Highpoint Health – Riverview with Ascension Saint Thomas provides community classes on on diabetes self-management and offers a support group for patients and their family members as well as members of the community who wish to share experiences and information.
Diabetes Education
The Diabetes Education Center is an American Diabetes Association accredited program offering comprehensive diabetes services to outpatients and their significant others. Instruction is offered to children and adults with type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes. Participants are offered group classes consisting of two sessions lasting three to four hours each and/ or as appropriate for the participant, one to one counseling is provided in a private setting. All pediatric, gestational, and special needs participants receive individual instruction.

Diabetes Support Group
The Diabetes Support Group meets every second Tuesday of the month. Individuals with diabetes and those who care for diabetics are welcome to attend. Learn what is new in diabetes care from professionals and how to manage this disease from fellow diabetics.

Gestational Diabetes Education
Pregnant women who have never had diabetes before but who have high blood glucose (sugar) levels during pregnancy are said to have gestational diabetes. Diabetes education can help pregnant women with diabetes gain the knowledge and problem-solving skills needed to maintain a healthy pregnancy. Controlling blood glucose or sugar levels can mean a healthy pregnancy for mom and a healthy start for the baby.
The Diabetes Program at Highpoint Health – Riverview is taught by a Registered Nurse and Registered Dietitian. Topics discussed include healthy eating for diabetes, reducing complications, taking medication, monitoring blood sugar, reading labels and more. For more information, call 615.735.5320.
