Senior Mental Health Risk Factors
It’s not always easy to recognize the early symptoms of a developing mental health condition in seniors. If you notice any of the following, it may be time for a mental health treatment assessment. Referrals may be made by physicians, healthcare providers, family and self.
Symptoms or conditions to look for:
- Changes in energy levels
- Irritability or anger
- Social withdrawal or loss of interest in
once-enjoyable activities - Difficulty sleeping, or sleeping more than usual
- Eating more or less than usual
- Thoughts of death or suicide
Possible Risk Factors:
- Recently widowed
- Loss of a loved one
- Loss of friends
- Recent move or change in environment
- Physical health decline
- Recent medical concern
- Changes in appearance
