Sumner Station ER Set to Expand Licensed Beds
July 10, 2024
Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas, a leader in emergency care across Northern Middle Tennessee, is expanding access to emergency room (ER) services at its Sumner Station location. The healthcare system, which recently entered a joint venture partnership with Ascension Saint Thomas, will undergo a multi-million-dollar capital project to increase its licensed emergency room beds and make other renovations at Sumner Station. The ER project is currently slated for completion in Spring 2025.
Established in 2017, the ER at Sumner Station, known today as Highpoint Health Sumner Station – ER with Ascension Saint Thomas, is located on Big Station Camp Boulevard and Vietnam Veterans State Highway 386, on the borders of the communities of Gallatin and Hendersonville. In the seven years of service to Greater Sumner County, usage of the emergency room has grown exponentially. In 2023, annual visits surpassed 12,500, thanks to the population growth in Sumner County, one of the fastest growing counties in Tennessee with 33.25% growth since 2010, according to the most recent U.S. Census data. Gallatin outpaces all other locations in Sumner County with 16.44% population growth since 2020.
“We see the allure Sumner County, and in particular, Gallatin has, and have made the decision to expand to meet this increased demand for healthcare services,” said Chief Executive Officer and Market President of Highpoint Health Rod Harkleroad. “The leadership of Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas is strongly committed to providing quality healthcare close to home, with emergency care being one of the things we do best.”
“At Sumner Station, our priority is quality emergency care. As such, all our providers are board-certified emergency physicians, even though it's not a requirement in hospitals. We enforce this standard to ensure our community receives the best care when they need it most.” Harkleroad said. “Patients travel across Sumner County and surrounding counties to seek care here because of the personalized care and short wait times. Patient satisfaction ratings regularly peak at 99 percent, and the facility has an extremely low rate of patients who leave without being seen or against medical advice. Sumner Station is a convenient location in the heart of a high-growth area of Sumner County. We have no doubt area residents will see this expansion of emergency care in their area as a significant benefit.”
