Nursing Residency Program
The 12-month Nurse Residency Program at Highpoint Health – Sumner with Ascension Saint Thomas is designed to support and prepare new graduate nurses to be successful in the hospital environment. The program integrates unit orientation, observations, hands-on and classroom training with clinical experts, and enhanced mentorships. We offer two application periods, one in the spring and another in the fall for summer and winter starts.
Some of what your experience may include:
- Specially-trained preceptors who understand the needs of the graduate nurse
- Mentoring and coaching from nurses and nurse leaders
- Networking with staff from all disciplines at Highpoint Health – Sumner
- A variety of care areas to work in, including the OR, orthopedics, cardiac, GI, neuro, respiratory and hospice (care areas will depend on position availability and experience levels on each unit)
Eligibility
- Graduate of BSN or ADN program (BSN preferred)
- Graduate nurse OR pending graduation within 4 months of application
- Nurse with less than 1 year of experience
- Transcript demonstrating a minimum GPA of 3.0
- 18 years of age or older
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Two letters of reference from clinical faculty members
- Essay describing your vision, 5-year goal plan, why you chose nursing, and why you are interested in Highpoint Health – Sumner's residency program
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a contract I have to sign? Currently, there is no contract.
How many graduates do you accept with each cohort? Each cohort size is based on the number of open positions.
Can I choose the unit I want? Preferences will be considered along with the number of available positions and the interview process.
What happens if I do not pass the NCLEX prior to the cohort start? You will be able to apply for the next cohort once you pass.
