Infant Loss Support
The loss of an infant can cause a family's whole world to fall apart. Losing an infant that was grown and loved for months is extremely hard, and it takes time to heal. At Highpoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas, we support grieving families as they navigate infant and pregnancy loss. In the tragic instance of the loss of an infant, we are grateful to be able to provide this resource to families at Highpoint Health – Sumner and Highpoint Health – Riverview.
The Cuddle Cot
The Helen James Foundation, founded by Emily Long who lost her daughter, Helen, at birth, donated a beautiful Cuddle Cot to our facility in honor and memory of her daughter. The Cuddle Cot, is a cooling cradle that allows a baby who was born sleeping to stay with its family up to 3 days after birth. This cradle provides precious extra time to families as they begin to navigate the grieving process. Learn more about the Cuddle Cot by watching the video below.
Grief Library
Another resource donated to Highpoint Health – Sumner by The Helen James Foundation is a Grief Library. Connecting with others who have experienced something similar is an often-understated path to healing. Grieving families and parents can find this connection through stories.
"When my husband Joel and I lost our daughter, Helen, we really relied on books, that helped us a lot to accept what had happened and to start to navigate through our grief." - Emily Long, Founder of The Helen James Foundation
Reading about how others have come to terms with their losses can be very useful to families in finding their own way through the grieving journey.
